TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF DURING CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY

I am a person who loves to be surrounded by family, welcoming friends to my home and spend time with my husband and daughter. You can probably guess that I love everything about Christmas, showing appreciation, and taking care of loved ones.

But in all of this, I sometimes forget to take care of myself, which is even harder when Christmas is around the corner, and the agenda gets filled up with family dinners and Holiday gatherings. I need my own time to reload and gather all the energy I can for next year’s challenges.

Throughout the years, I have come up with some good practices that I will share with you. They sound super simple, but they’re sometimes more difficult to follow then you would think. Because when you are in the middle of gingerbread baking, Christmas gift shopping, Lucia celebrations, and relatives are pulling your attention in multiple directions, it is never easy.

Give yourself some ‘me-time’ 

One tip is that when planning for Christmas and New Year, set aside time for recovery and rest and enjoy the Christmas holidays.

We often say that we need me-time, but we always prioritise other things before. We are not selfish enough I guess. So I would like to challenges you to be a little bit more selfish and give yourself some me-time. Maybe a cozy winter walk on your own, or curl up with a book on the couch (or in the bathup if you need to hide from the rest of the family 😉 )

Plan an unplanned day

Give yourself a day when you plan nothing. Take a long morning in bed, with Christmas breakfast and a classic Christmas movie. And I, like a toddler’s parent, know that children don’t sleep longer in the morning just because there is no kindergarten tomorrow – but invite them in to your bed in the morning, give them a cookie and ignore that there will be some bread crumbs in the bed! Just be together.

Enjoy…

Do not get a bad conscience for not sending Christmas greetings to all your friends and that you have not baked any gingerbread house or bought a Christmas present for your aunt. Just be you, and I promise it will be appreciated more than anything else. Now it is soon Christmas, and do not let the time pass by, instead, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the Christmas holiday.
